At the last Winter Garden City Council meeting, a local individual was removed from the City Council meeting for choosing not to stand for the invocation or pledge because of his personal beliefs.
At the next City Council meeting, members of our Central Florida Freethought Community will attend the Winter Garden City Council meeting and sit through the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance, exercising their constitutional right to do so. This is a great opportunity for the City Council to apologize for publicly humiliating and bullying one of their constituents.
The next meeting falls on September 11th, and on that date a decision regarding prayer at meetings may be made: include everyone by removing prayer, or include everyone by allowing all individuals, regardless of their faith perspective, to deliver the inspirational invocations.
September 11th is a very patriotic day in America, where we remember the losses of loved ones and honor them with service to others. Keeping America free for all faith perspectives and promoting respect for all citizens of our nation is an important part of that service.
